We had a bit of a scare with Ariana this week. We were struggling to get her fever below 106. After a long night and a priesthood blessing I took her into the dr's office. She had a bunch of blood work done to try to find the source. Strep, flu, ear, and urinalysis all came back clear. We are looking into blood platelets and internal infections now. I don't think there is anything scarier and emotional than watching your small child suffer and go through something like this. I am so grateful for the wonderful neighbors who have stepped up to help with the boys. We aren't in the clear yet. Her fever is still high and she is facing dehydration. We can feel all the prayers begin sent our way.
This photo came up on my news feed from last year on facebook. Aj has been the most amazing big brother ever since Ariana was born. He is so gentle , patient and sweet with her. With everything going on with Ariana this week, Aj has really stepped up and helped as much as he can. He asks me how her fever is, he tries to help her eat or drink, even when she is screaming and pushing it away. He sings to her to try to calm her down, and he prays so hard that she will get better. I hope he protects her forever!
Her fever spiked again (105.6) the next afternoon. I called into the clinic and asked if we should be admitted into the hospital for an IV. Instead they had me come into the clinic to get an antibiotic shot. The Dr called it a "cannon ball" shot. not super accurate, but can kill a whole bunch of different bacteria infections. Her fever came down throughout the evening. She finally fell into a deep sleep around 1:30 and woke up with a very low fever the next morning. We went into the office in the morning for a follow up and a few more test results. At this point they were planning on doing a spinal tap to check for meningitis.
The prayers have all been felt. After posting our story on Face book I was able to feel more control and calm in dealing with all of this.
We would frequent the bathtub in a luke room temp bath. It seemed to help raise her spirits. On our third day we had to take her back into the Dr. He fever was down for about a half of a day but then spiked again after her afternoon nap. He gave her a second dose of the cannon ball shot and a different umbrella shot. The tests all came back clear once more. No answers, but nothing too much to worry about it. Dr Edwards said he wasn't too worried about anything too serious because of her continued mobility and activity level.
I broke down on day three and called my parents in tears. it took them 20 minutes to work things out at home and made their way up north to help me out. They calmed me down, took care of the other kids, cleaned our house, made a few meals and made all the difference in the world. The next morning she woke up super sweaty and it seemed her fever had broke. We headed into the Dr once more and everything was clear. The Dr was happy with her improved color and mood. So many prayers were felt and Heavenly Father was with us through this whole thing. We are so happy to have our smiley little baby back. Maybe all she needed was a good dose of Gammie and Potts.
She was a bit lethargic and overly tired for the next few days, but things quickly improved. What a blessing. We may never know what was wrong, but I am so glad everything is fine.
